Silvia Persico is fourth in the last stage of the Ceratizit Festival Elsy Jacobs in Luxembourg

Great performance for Silvia Persico who showed determination and strength in fighting for the top positions in the last stage of the Ceratizit Festival Elsy Jacobs. This race was – without a doubt – the most spectacular and uncertain one of the entire women’s cycling season.

In fact, Silvia found herself in the middle of the battle for the leader’s jersey with the wild Chabbey, Winder and Wiles who repeatedly tried to detach Emma Norsgaard who, however, won stage and jersey in the final sprint of a small group.

“In the first few kilometers I tried to get into some breakaways as I did in yesterday’s stage – says Silvia Persico, Valcar – Travel & Service athlete born in 1997 – then when we entered the final circuit, my partner Chiara Consonni and I were in a group detached of 20 seconds. At that point I pulled uphill to bring this group back to the leading athletes and, subsequently, Elisa Balsamo also helped because we wanted to bring Chiara in the sprint. Unfortunately, however, in the final I was left alone in front and so I made the sprint. I am happy for this placement, even if a little sorry for the missed podium. Now I will try to do well in Spain at the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas at the end of the month ”.

This result is the best one of the 2021 for Silvia Persico. In this Festival Elsy Jacobs has already sent important signals: in the prologue of Cessange on Friday she finished just 13 seconds behind the leader and in the 1st stage Steinfort-Steinfort she helped Elisa Balsamo to compete in the final sprint.

The fourth place certifies the growth and maturity of an athlete who grew up in the youth sector of Valcar – Travel & Service since she was 12 years old.

A youth sector that does not stop growing other future athletes: in fact last sunday Maria Acuti won in Crema and yesterday Beatrice Bertolini won in Boncellino.
